Art and Business are two elements that every creator of artistic content (movies, comedy, drawings, music etc.) must blend together to be successful. It is one of the hardest things to do as we constantly see people struggle and often compromise one for the other. For example, if the art standard is lowered and you focus on the business aspect of getting the goods out to the consumers, in the end, the consumers would get the goods and not like it. So it ends up being a lose-lose situation. Also, if you decide to focus on the art and leave the aspect of getting it out to the consumers, well, your art would end up in your bedroom. My view on a proper balance of the matter is actually not so complicated. I think art and business are two separate things that must be viewed differently but worked together for the best level of productivity. Like rice and stew, you have to make each of them separately but eaten together. They both have to taste good individually so when they come together, it tastes perfect. So I say, make your art and put in your best in your creative art process. Make sure to value the customers and want them happy with your product, so put in your best. Also, get your art out there. There are a lot of ways to get your creative content out there. There are marketers, bloggers, social media, a whole of ways to get out there. If indeed you’ve created your content to the best of your ability, there is a market with people who would appreciate your content but they must first know about it in order to want it and in essence, pay for it. So go ahead and work on getting the art as far as you can. Do the business end. Put the stew on the rice. The Art and The Business: Never leave one out of the equation if your art is your business.
