Program Details

Phase One: Virtual Training

The initial phase of the CNN Academy Training Program is fully online through the CNN Academy Hub. Participants will complete a series of courses designed to strengthen their storytelling skills and deepen their understanding of global issues affecting the Global South. To advance to Phase Two, participants must complete all courses, earn required badges, and submit a pitch for a story they plan to produce using the skills gained.

Phase Two: In-Person Training

The second phase takes place in Abu Dhabi, where participants receive hands-on training in mobile journalism and storytelling techniques from CNN Academy experts. This is followed by the 2025 CNN Academy Simulation focused on global health reporting—a fast-paced, real-world activity where participants apply their skills to create impactful stories in a dynamic news environment.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this program, applicants must:
  • Reside and work in a Global South country (e.g. Nigeria)
  • Be an early-career content creator, journalist, or storyteller
  • Have a portfolio showcasing relevant work
  • Possesses strong communication skills and fluency in both spoken and written English
  • Commit to fully participating in the entire training program and applying their new skills to their reporting
  • Be willing and able to travel to Abu Dhabi for the November 2025 simulation
