More options for flights to London will now be available as one of Nigeria’s leading airlines will soon join the list of airlines with flights to London. Air Nigeria, formerly known as Virgin Nigeria, is set to commence daily international flights to London. This will take effect from May 16, 2012.
During the past weekend, Dr Jimoh Ibrahim, the chairman of Air Nigeria, made this disclosure during an interactive session with media executives in Lagos. He said that for any airline to survive, it must fly international routes. For this reason, Air Nigeria has recently acquired two A330-200 aircrafts to commence flights from Lagos to Gatwick, North Terminal. These two new aircrafts have been allocated for international operations.
From May 1, 2012, the operations of the airline would be decentralised to international, regional, and national operations, which would run as different entities and be headed by executive directors. The regional and national operations are to get four and seven aircrafts respectively.
Dr Jimoh Ibrahim noted that the airline, which was at the brink of collapse before NICON took over in April 2010, is now in a stable condition.
