In this article, we’ll talk about 7 broad ways you can make money on WhatsApp. Read on, and think about which one of these ideas could work best for you.

WhatsApp Group Monetisation

One thing you could do with WhatsApp is to create a group that’s valuable or entertaining and monetise it. For instance, if you’re able to grow a “Fashion Deals in Lagos” group so that it has a large number of members, you could charge fashion businesses a fee for advertising their deals on it. Or if it’s a group that provides really useful information or resources (study materials, business tips, trading strategies, etc.) you could charge a monthly fee (i.e. subscription) for access.

Dropshipping

Here’s another idea: sell products on WhatsApp without holding inventory of your own. You may partner with product suppliers to sell their products on the messaging app, and take your cut/margin on each sale. Some people do this with their WhatsApp statuses; you could do so on a group or even a channel for wider reach. As is the case for similar WhatsApp business ideas, success here largely depends on building a sizeable following.

Sell Digital Content

If you create digital products, WhatsApp is a great place to sell them. After putting together e-books, PDFs, guides, or tutorial videos, you can promote them on your status and deliver them via WhatsApp after payment. It would likely be easier to attract buyers for these products if you’ve already built a community that values your knowledge of your field. Again, this is something you can do with WhatsApp, via groups and channels.

Paid Offers

You can use WhatsApp to advertise and manage service-based businesses. Services you may offer include freelancing (graphics, web design, editing, etc.); private tutoring (academic or business coaching); and home services (cleaning, tailoring, and repairs).

Host WhatsApp Classes

This means selling your knowledge to people who are willing to pay for it. This knowledge could be in one of many areas—cooking, careers, writing, sales, business insights, and so on. An often effective way to do this is to organise classes on WhatsApp, with lessons delivered in voice notes and videos. Make sure your classes are practical and engaging; this will drive word of mouth about them and lead more willing learners to you. Charge per participant, and collect payments through bank transfers.

WhatsApp TV

You can grow your WhatsApp contact list by adding thousands of contacts from groups, referrals, or giveaways. Curate and share content with them in wildly popular niches (sports, inspirational quotes, etc.), and have businesses pay you to advertise on your status. You can charge per post or weekly.

WhatsApp Marketing

If you already run a business, you can create a catalogue on WhatsApp Business; send status updates with offers and new arrivals; use broadcast lists to message customers about new arrivals; and offer doorstep delivery or pre-order services. You could sell things like fabrics, shoes, cosmetics, electronics, or accessories. Or you could run a food delivery or catering service with it.
