Second, you are positioning yourself to be visible in the company, and by being visible, you come to mind easily when the promotion period springs up. Finally, doing the job no one loves indicates that you are willing to do even the most difficult things to make your mark. This also establishes your reputation as a reliable member of the team.

Helping out in the workplace builds trust and strengthens reputation. However, there is a way to go about helping out coworkers so that you don’t look pushy or desperate. It might be counterproductive. Let coworkers ask for help and give you direction on what to do. Another way to set yourself up for promotion is by asking your boss for a new project. However, to do this effectively, make sure you know everything about your company and you understand the trends and understand how it affects your line of work. Armed with the right information, you can suggest new projects and tasks to your boss. When you pitch a proposal, it helps if you present your skillset, as well so your boss knows what you can do. For example, if your company is seeking to expand its operation to another city, if your current role is in the marketing department, you can tell your boss that you would like to lead the expansion project with your marketing experience since it will require meeting new people.
