As we count down to December 31st, you are not the only one who is reflecting on the year being left behind, identifying the lessons learnt, mistakes made and the testimonies experienced. A good number of us also spent time pondering on these and more in the area of relationships, as we tried to figure out who is worth “taking along” into the new year. No one likes extra baggage, after all, and for good reason. Here are a few tips to help you make that crucial decision of whether or not that relationship is worth keeping in 2016 – be it romantic, professional or otherwise:
  1. He or she shares your core values and beliefs. After all, can two walk together unless they agree, particularly on things as fundamental as values?
  2. This person builds you up and does not tear you down, be it through verbal abuse, emotional manipulation and more. Your physical and psychological wellbeing come first, always remember this.
  3. You sense inner peace, purpose and direction in your relationship. If not, it’s probably time to get a move on. Never ignore urges from your God-given inner witness. He knows what’s best.
  4. You are both growing in the same direction. This comes in two folds – first, it means no one is obstructing the progress of the other, and secondly, that bond that kept you two in the first place is still in place.
