These days everyone uses social media either to get information, to connect with others or just for fun. There is no limit to the things you can use social media for, the internet has become an indispensable tool for communication and education. However, there are still some downsides to it because not all it is used for is actually good. When using social media, be careful to only reap the positive benefits and avoid the negative parts. Here are some of the things you should keep in mind while using social media:

1. Terms and conditions: How many times have you bothered to read the terms and conditions when opening a social media account before just clicking yes? Yeah, we all just click ‘Yes I agree’ and move on. It is important to actually know what you are agreeing to before accepting the deal. Not all social media platforms are totally secure from breaching and hackings. And at the end of the day, the platform may not be liable for any damage done in the case of a security breach. So before agreeing to all the terms and conditions, read before clicking yes.

2. Personal information: Cases of stolen identity are now pretty common these days thanks to social media. One has to be mindful of the kind of information posted on social media, an identity thief can easily get access to your pictures and personal information and use it to carry out shady deals. That is why it is not recommended to share sensitive personal information on social media. If you do not want the information to get into wrong hands, it is better not to put it on social media, even secured accounts are hacked all the time.

3. Time: Did you know that the valuable time you spend with social media daily can actually be channeled into something more productive? It is not uncommon to see a room full of young talented and productive people spending the better part of their time with social media, usually to no end. Except you are using social media to educate yourself or promote your work, spending too much time on it is a waste of energy, money and valuable time. Use the internet responsibly in a way that it betters your life rather than pulling you back.
