Nigerian fashion brands continually outdo themselves from time to time. They are not just content with being national fashion icons and forces to reckon with, they have taken further steps to leave indelible marks on the international fashion scene.

Every year, Nigerian fashion collections are showcased and featured on International runways, fashion shows, and fashion magazines.  In this article, three of such brands will be discussed.
  1. Lanre Da Silva Ajayi
She was born in 1978 in Lagos, Nigeria. She lauched her eponymous label in 2005 and it includes couture, ready-to-wear, jewelry and hairpieces. Da Silva has shown her collections in different runways and fashion shows like: Thisday Africa Rising Festival in London in 2008, Arise Africa Fashion Festival in South Africa and the New York Couture Fashion Week in 2009. In 2011, she showcased her work in Arise Magazine Fashion Week in Lagos. She witnessed a great career advancement in 2011, when she presented her jaw dropping collection of traditional African prints at the New York Fashion Week (NYFW). In 2018, the international supermodel Noami Campbell opened the show at the Arise Africa Fashion Festival wearing one of Da Silva’s outfits.
  1. KAI collective
Fisayo Longe, the founder of Kai collective, was born in England but spent her childhood in Nigeria. Kai Collective was birthed from Fisayo’s love for collecting fabric during her travels.  Fisayo started by opening an online blog and concentrated on building the engagement of the blog. Five years after launching her online blog, she decided that it was time for KAI to come into the limelight. The brand website explains that KAI seeks to create clothing for multi-dimensional women who embrace their femininity in all its various forms. The most popular dress from the brand is the Gaia dress. It has been crowned the dress of the summer for 2020 and has even made it to the cover of ELLE’s September 2020 issue. The dress has been worn by several high profile celebrities from Temi Otedola and Ebonee Davis to Youtubers like Jackie Aina, Patricia Bright, and The Oddity.

  1. Orange Culture
Orange Culture was founded by Adebayo Oke-Lawal. He has been passionate about fashion since he was a little boy. In 2011, Oke-Lawal launched his brand, Orange Culture, after working for several designers for an extended period of time. Since the debut of the first brand collection at the Lagos Fashion Design Week in 2011, Oke-Lawal has been working so hard to ensure that his brand is recognised all over the world. His hardwork has definitely paid off, as Orange Culture has received recognition from international magazines like: Vogue ( US, UK, ITALY), WWD, BoF, L’Uomo Vogue, Huffington Post, New York Times, CNN, BET, MTV, Vanity Fair, ELLE, Marie Claire, L’Officiel, Style.com, The Guardian and The New York Times. The extraordinary talents, commitment and hardwork of these fashion brands have proven to yield results over the years.  It should be noted that this is not a comprehensive list of fashion brands in Nigeria with international repute.
