Leaving your 9-5 job to become an entrepreneur takes a whole lot of considerations and careful planning. Many people have had to regret their decision of leaving their 9-5 job to pursue an entrepreneurial path. It takes due diligence and careful consideration and calculations to move from being employed to self-employed. In this article, I highlight five signs to observe, to know if you can start your entrepreneurial journey.
  1. You Feel Challenged

One of the signs you must monitor to show that you are ready is that you feel challenged by your present position. A study showed that over 70% of entrepreneurs felt challenged by their current position as employees. The things that ranked most was that they were either exhausted with being employees, or they felt there was more to life. Others felt they needed a change or simply wanted to build something new or solve an existing problem. These entrepreneurs did not ignore their feelings, they were motivated to begin their entrepreneurial journey. If you feel stagnated, bored, unfulfilled, unchallenged, those are all the signs that it might be time to do something different.
  1. You Are Passionate About Something Else

Another sign to look out for to know if you are ripe to be an entrepreneur is if you are passionate about something else other than your 9-5 job. For example, the founder of Zoom Inc., Eric Yuan, told CNBC that he was passionate about video conferencing that he had to leave his high-paying job at CISCO to build his company, Zoom, which is today one of the most profitable social media networks. From this, there should be a solution you have that you want to use to fill a gap. Don’t just leave to start up your business, but that you have a solution you are passionate about sharing.

  1. You Have A Clear Vision Of What You Want To Build

Don’t leave your 9-5 job if you don’t have a clear vision of what you want to build. One of the signs you must take note of is that when you close your eyes, you can see how your new enterprise looks like. Secondly, you must have a clear and precise vision board of what you want to do. You can see your solution being duplicated and sold to customers who will appreciate it. Vision is key to entrepreneurial success.
  1. You Are Moved To Turn Problems Into Opportunities

The leading entrepreneurs are not just go-getters. They ventured into the world of business because they could turn problems into opportunities. For example, some business people have told Forbes and Business Day that an existing problem in society forced them to resign from their 9-5 jobs. Furthermore, if you observe that you’re proactively solving problems in the past, it’s a good sign that you might do well as an entrepreneur.
  1. You Are Ready To Damn The Consequences

Entrepreneurship is not for the Lily-livered or weakened people. One of the signs you must look out for before you consider yourself ready for entrepreneurship, is that you can live with the worst-case scenario. Being optimistic is good, but it’s not enough. You must constantly ask yourself, what if it fails, will it affect me badly? Can I be able to endure it? These questions are what you must use to gauge your readiness.
