The first key to overcoming this problem is to first acknowledge that posts made at inappropriate times can be lost in a flood of new posts on your customers’ feeds. Hence, your target customers might skip your post and miss out on your message by the end of the day. Next, you have to understand that the different social media platforms have their different peak times and downtimes. Also, you will have to consider the time zone when making a post online if you are targeting a national audience. That said, below is the breakdown of the peak times and downtimes of some of the major social media platforms marketers use:
  • Facebook: Having one of the largest bases of active users, Facebook engagement usually centres around 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM within the week, with Wednesday topping with the highest engagement. Avoid posting before and after the aforementioned timeframe and do not even consider the weekends. Afternoons are the best time of the day to post since most Facebook users who are workers are likely taking a break.

  • Twitter: The timeframe that works best is 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM from Monday to Thursday. Any post made after 3:00 PM on Friday will have little engagement because Twitter users are probably going to pay little attention to it.
  • LinkedIn: This app has the highest number of professional users because of its career-oriented nature. Engagement are sure to rise from Tuesday through Thursday, and peaking from noon till around 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. Mondays, Fridays, and the weekends are sure to give you little engagement if you dare to make a post.
  • Instagram: Instagram users are active throughout the whole week, and they spend more time online particularly on Mondays and Wednesdays. However, posting between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM is not ideal for you. It has also been recorded that Sunday’s have the lowest engagement level in the week.
  • Pinterest: The best time to make posts on Pinterest is from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM on weekdays and on weekends. Posting during regular weekday work hours is strongly discouraged.
