There are tons of new skills which are very adaptable to the 21st century. It could be digital marketing skills, crypto or forex trading skills, freelance writing skills, coding skills, etc. All these are tailored to your needs and the needs of the industry you find yourself in. Without constantly improving yourself through learning new skills, you’ll fast become obsolete for any profession. Most times, young graduates depend on their certificates, without realizing that inasmuch as your certificate can get you a job, your skills are the only thing that’ll keep you employed and sought after. Your certificate would only give you the qualifications to stand before kingmakers, but your ability to skillfully bring more to the table will make you a King. Funnily enough, some people seem to doubt the fact that they could learn any skill. I mean, I hear people oftentimes saying they have nothing to offer to the world. Well, that’s a lie. In every individual lies ton of abilities and skills, the only problem lies in discovering them. Find the areas that interest you, no matter how subtle, improve on them and watch how great you’d be. I once heard of a young lady who loved watching movies. I mean as simple as that. Do you know what she did? She went ahead to learn how to review movies, script movies, generate movie ideas and today she’s among the National Board of Censors who review movies before release. You can learn any skill you want to learn if you put your mind to it and strategize towards achieving your goal. Helpful strategies are:
  • Set a S.M.A.R.T Goal

Scribbling the skills you want to learn on a paper is good, but do you have clear-cut goals to achieve them? The first step to learning a new skill is setting a Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely goal.

  • Break Down Your Goals

To measure your success rate with ease and achieve more, you need to break your bigger goal into smaller ones. For instance, if the big goal is to learn content creation, then your smaller goals would be to take content creation classes, download and watch videos on it, compare different content creation strategies, etc.
  • Identify Potential Challenges

After finding out approaches that would be suitable to help you learn your desired skill, make a list of challenges or barriers which could hinder your learning. These challenges could be finance, time, lack of resources. Also, make a list of motivations that would help you break the barriers. It could be saving, creating lesson hours in your schedule, etc.
  • Take Baby Steps

In learning a new skill, lift one foot at a time to avoid falling and achieving nothing. Even if you have millions of skills you want to acquire, write them down, then take them one step at a time. When you achieve one, you start the second, when you achieve the second, you move to the third. Trying to carry everything all at once will get you nowhere.
  • Get A Coach Or Mentor

This keeps you focused on the goal and makes you accountable. Finding a mentor with a mastery in the skill you want to acquire is vital, as he/she would stir you towards the right direction, open your eyes to mistakes you might be making, and help you learn faster.
  • Connect With Like-Minded Individuals/Communities

The fastest and easiest way to learn a skill is to learn with others. Joining a community of like minds will help you share ideas, mistakes, and provide answers to your questions.
  • Track Your Progress

Evaluating and tracking your progress every now and then helps you know how far you have gone to achieve your goals. Featured Image Source: FlexJobs
