Trying to get that dream job may even be more difficult, because you are now pickier and not willing to take just anything. But if you’re the determined type, you may not want to settle for less, regardless of whatever difficulties you may face. This is good, because let’s face it, taking just about any job you can get will probably have you looking for a new job soon enough. In this article, I would share a few tips that would help you land the job of your dreams.
  • Can’t Have a Dream Job Without a Dream, Right?

You have to first know what it is that you’re looking for. If your dream job requires you to work in a law firm, you shouldn’t be jumping on the bank job, because it’s available. Would you prefer to work at a big company? Then that job at the startup may not be for you. Asides knowing what place you want to work at, you should also know what would be expected of you. You should also know about company structures, culture, and workplace environment to know if you would be a shoo-in. When all these have been determined, you can go ahead and look for job listings that fit what you are looking for.
  • Work on Your Backstory

Work on that CV. This is what would tell your potential employer about the skills that you bring along with you, be they hard or soft skills, the experiences you may have gathered over the years through an internship or previous jobs, and your educational background. This is the hook that may get whoever sees it interested in you, so it would have to be as close to perfect as you can make it. It would also help to create a very good LinkedIn profile.

  • Network

This is where your “connections” could come in handy. Nowadays, many organizations look towards people they have already employed to help in the recruitment process. This helps them reduce costs on job adverts, and they also believe it increases the chances of bringing in highly qualified people for interviews, thus, saving them time too. If you know someone at a company you are interested in working for, you can get in touch with the person, not just to give you a recommendation or help you get an interview, but to also give you an inside scoop on what the work environment and company culture is like. If you don’t know anybody, a good way you can network is by using LinkedIn to search for people working at the company and try to get in touch with them, either directly or through people you may know. Establish a relationship with them before you seek favour and also endeavour to be professional at all times.
  • Make the Most of Your Opportunity

If you go through all the processes of the application for the job and eventually get an interview, you’re going to want to make sure you go all the way. Practice without memorizing how to answer the possible questions that may be asked by the interviewer. A good way to answer questions perfectly is by understanding why they were asked in the first place. Also, be able to answer the “Tell me about yourself” question, which is one of the most common questions being asked by interviewers. A good answer to that question eases you into the interview, and the rest is likely to go smoothly. These tips would help you towards landing your dream job, but most importantly, you should always stay updated and educated about the nature of interviews, and what would be expected from you in those situations.
