The career decision-making process requires you to think carefully about your interests, talents, abilities and values and most times, what you are good at indicates your career interests. Whether you are going for a major or searching for a job, a career decision scale, which is a theory-based service, can help you develop and implement a plan for the future as regards your career. The Career Decision Scale, typically, is a scale often used to examine, evaluate, and assess the degree of career indecision rather than as a set of category descriptors to assign to individuals. The Career Decision Scale provides an approximation of career indecisions and their previous circumstances, as well as an outcome measure to determine the effects of relevant interventions. Studies show that most of us will spend more time planning a vacation than planning or managing our career development, yet we are aware that making career decisions requires a commitment of time and energy. Although there are no quick fixes or rapid answers, however, taking a positive approach to career-decision making will help to strengthen the correlation between career fulfilment and life satisfaction because if you are not satisfied with a chosen career path, your life might never be fully fulfilled.

The career decision-making scale can offer valuable assistance in helping you make well-informed career decisions. It measures the degree of certainty an individual feels about his/her career decision, while the Indecision scale provides a measure of career indecision. It also allows the individual to clarify or provide additional information about his or her career decision making. Also, CDS has contributed strongly to a better understanding of career indecisions among various individuals. The idea of the CDS has also led to the growth of other measures of career decision problems, some more grounded in theory, some emphasizing particular factors suggested by work on the Career Decision Scale. In addition, the CDS helps individuals focus their attention on possible differences between a state of career un-decidedness and trait-like career indecision. Career un-decidedness could be changed because it involves not being able to settle on a particular career path because of some reasons or lack of needed information and it can be solved by providing specific occupational information, but career indecision suggests the presence of barriers to decision perceived by the client as irresolvable. The greater attention paid to un-decidedness versus indecision has led to the discovery of the obvious usefulness of the CDS in suggesting psychodynamic explanations and interventions for career issues This scale has helped individuals who were stuck in career decision-making as a result of one situation or the other set a balance in their career decision making.
