I once had the bad luck of sharing an enclosed space with such a person and all I can say is that it was an awfully nauseous experience.

Today, we’ll be discussing kitchen remedies for this skin condition but before we go into the topic proper, here are a few things that you should know. First, everyone has a smell, one that is specific to them. It becomes a body odour when that smell is offensive to others. Therefore, body odour which is also known as bromhidrosis is an unpleasant smell that is created when we sweat. It occurs when bacteria break down the proteins in the sweat into acids that produce an unpleasant odour. The second thing to note is that it is mainly the sweat produced by the apocrine glands which are located in the armpits, groin and pubic areas that is responsible for body odour. However, the above-mentioned areas are not the only body odour prone areas. The feet, the anus, belly button, neck and behind the ears are also likely places for body odour to occur. The third thing to note is that body odour begins at puberty because of the rising hormones called androgens which are not active until puberty. It can however be made worse by poor hygiene, heavy exercise, hot weather, being overweight, changes in hormone. Not everyone who has body odour is aware of it but it can be awfully embarrassing for those who have been apprised of their skin condition. Fortunately, this malady can be reduced or banished at home with the following kitchen remedies:

Baking Soda

When I called this ingredient the kitchen wonder, shebi you were looking at me with a corner eye? Well, you can now add body odour reduction to its litany of benefits. Baking soda neutralizes body odour by absorbing moisture, altering the skin’s ph and suppressing bacterial growth from the body. Thus, if you want to use this kitchen wonder to cure body odour, mix it and lemon juice then apply it to the affected body area(s) for a few minutes before washing it off. In the alternative, you can use it as talc. Pat it under your arms and between your toes like talcum powder.

Lemon

Lemon is a great antiseptic. It does an excellent job of balancing the skin’s ph. So, it can get rid of that odour causing bacteria. Just cut it open and squeeze some of its juice into your underarm area. Wash off after ten minutes. But if you have sensitive skin, please dilute the lemon juice with water before application.

Vinegar

This kitchen staple contains acetic acid which is responsible for its tartness and for its nutritional, medicinal and beauty benefits. Vinegar does a great job of balancing the ph level of the body. It can also kill any bacteria that produce body odour. It is easy to use too. Simply use cotton wool to dab vinegar on sweat prone body area. In case you’re wondering, either white vinegar or apple cider vinegar can do the work.

Water

This gift of nature represents life and goodness. Water cleanses and purifies and so flushes toxins out of the body. Thus, if you want to neutralise that body odour, drink lots of water and bath well.

Tomatoes

Surprised? Well, this vegetable is not just used in making stew. Tomato juice serves as an astringent. As such, it can help you get rid of that body odour. Just rub the juice under your armpit before you shower. You can also drink one or two glasses every day to help reduce the odour.

Aloe Vera

This plant should be nicknamed Aloe the Great for its wide range of benefits. Aloe vera contains anti-bacterial and Antifungal properties; its antibacterial properties is what makes it effective in the treatment of body odour. Scoop the gel out of the aloe vera leaves. Apply it to affected areas and leave it for thirty minutes before washing it off. So, these are the kitchen remedies for body odour.
