The name ‘Alex Oriaifo’ doesn’t ring a bell for most of the Nigerian Twitterati. But as Four-eyed Edo Boy, he’s one of the leading Nigerian influencers on Twitter, with over 550,000 followers on the platform. People there know him for his witty, wordplay tweets, which often put a humorous spin on otherwise mundane statements.

Although he’s been a Twitter user since 2011, Oriaifo didn’t take on the influencer tag until 2017. At that point, he was home from school and had some time on his hands. He says he decided to share posts more frequently on Twitter. Soon, his engagement numbers took off. He recalls turning down the first few promotions offers he received from brands because he thought he didn’t have “what it took” to promote them. But he’s since worked on social media marketing projects with several organizations, including banks, home entertainment companies and IT firms. Oriaifo’s Twitter username—Four-eyed Edo Boy –comes from his use of spectacles, and the fact that he’s from Edo State. He currently studies there too; he’s a student at the University of Benin. The impressiveness of his wordplay tweets often leaves his followers wondering how he comes up with them. He’s explained that he derives content from his everyday experiences, including misreading roadside banners. He says he also fiddles with words in his thoughts.

Besides his work on social media, Oriaifo also dances and draws, although he’s done the latter less frequently in recent years. His constant online engagements appear to have shrunk the time available for his hobbies. For the Four-eyed Edo Boy, the keys to attracting and keeping an audience on social media are quality content and consistency. He notes that his work avoids slighting people, and keeps within the reasonable limits of decency. Oriaifo advises aspiring social media influencers to toe a similar path if they want to be around for the long haul. Featured Image Source: @Alex_Houseof308 – Twitter
