The native of Edo State left Nigeria in the 1980s and has since established himself as a global name in Robotics Engineering. Despite his exploits abroad, Osato, as he is fondly called, has not forgotten his Nigerian roots.
What You Should Know About Osatohanmwen Osemwengie
A star at the 2008 world robotics championship, the robotics genius is popular for his exploits with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), where he has been successful in sending drones to various planets including Mars and Jupiter. In an interview, he talked about one of his projects with NASA:‘NASA’s Next Mars Rover Progresses toward 2020 launch. Many years ago I worked on prototype of Mars Curiosity Rover that has roam Mars for more than 4 years and counting. We are now working on the next rover set to launch in 2020.’ OsatohanmwenAlso, it will be recalled that in a CNN report, it was disclosed that the Nigerian alongside a team of engineers at the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab, California, “received a signal from 540 million miles across the solar system, confirming our Juno spacecraft has successfully started orbiting Jupiter, the largest planet in our solar system.” Reacting to this, the genius celebrated by saying “now my team’s turn to land humans on MARS. Go NASA, Go Vertical.” In academics, Osato who once served as an administrator at the College of Education, Benin, (he gained recognition there, after being awarded Educator of the Year) boasts of six masters degrees and four doctorate degree. In his words:
‘Six master degrees, not bad. I was in the State of Ohio on Monday, December 12th, 2016 for my Masters of Business Administration (MBA) graduation. This is my 6th master degree and will begin work on my 7th master degree in January 2017, and my 4th PhD. degree at University of Texas at Dallas in September of 2017. You know the proverb, ‘all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’ well, for me, all work and my play is acquiring graduate degrees. Learning is relaxing and takes my mind of my job projects.’ OsatoIn 2011, Osato founded the first engineering university that is tuition-free, the Open Robotics University. Powered by Google+, the university awards free bachelors, masters and doctorate degrees in Robotics Engineering. Though it is unclear if the university still exists, the last records from the institution disclosed that it is headquartered in Ohio and have students in 45 cities out of 25 countries. Aside from working for the United States Army, the Edo man owns a drone company, Ubiquity Interface Inc., where he is the CEO, a company he runs alongside his brother, Ken, a US Army retired lieutenant colonel. The abstract from his February 2017 released research titled “QuantumDB API for Database Security and Integrity Enhancements” which has been submitted to the US Army, reads: ‘QuantumDB is a database system required for implementation of secured database management system by the Army and Department of Defense within non-clustered environment in tactical space where computing and storage resources are limited.’ Osato’s work life seems to have gotten the most of him as he recounted in 2016 during a visit to his US base in Ohio that he had not seen his family in two years. Information from his Facebook post back then revealed that he has a son and a daughter.
‘My greatest moment from my visit to Ohio for my graduation was spending some time with my children. I have not seen them in two years.
