There’s an interesting collection of films to watch in cinemas this weekend. Mercy Johnson’s production: The Legend of Inikpi, and Joseph (a Ghanaian-Jamaican production) are now both screening, and Sugar Rush is back from its cinema ban. We’ve included the brief synopsis for each film.

By the way, is it just us or did January do a fly-by? Somehow, it’s the 24th. Anyway. What will you go out to see this weekend?

Joseph

Joseph’ is a film that explores the life of a Jamaican doctor who has Ghanaian ancestors. Throughout his life, he’s only considered himself as a Jamaican, but through a series of life twists and turns, he makes the life-changing decision to travel to Ghana and embark on a journey of self-discovery.

The Legend Of Inikpi

Set in the ancient Kingdoms of Igala and Bini, ‘The Legend of Inikpi’ tells a compelling tale of two kingdoms on the brink of war. When the Oracle informs King Attah of the Igala Kingdom of the human sacrifice demanded by the gods, the king plunges into despair; haunted by the ghosts of his past, this is a sacrifice he is not prepared to give!

Fix Us

Fix Us tells the story three young ladies who take on a journey of faith and fate. When Naadie (Yvonne Nelson), Chioma (Yvonne Okoro) and Jaya (Alexandra Amon) run into each other at an audition, they are bound by their common dream to be movie stars and form a friendship that can hardly be broken. But when their dreams are eventually actualized, they soon realize that they want even something more from life. Something more that money cannot buy. Something more that fame cannot give. Something more that they must find for themselves.

The cast of this film includes Yvonne Okoro, Prince David Osei, Michelle Attoh, Nigeria’s Mofe Duncan, Tobi Bakre, Jessica Williams, Belinda Dzatta and Ivorian actress, Alexandra Amon.

Sugar Rush

Susie and Sola are given two days to come up with some cash to save their mum who is held, hostage. They enlist the help of two other hilarious friends, each with a particular skill as they aim to up their game and play in the con big league.

This film stars Bimbo Ademoye, Bisola Aiyeola and Adesua Etomi-Wellington in the lead roles.

Merry Men 2: Another Mission

Merry Men II continues the adventures of Ayo, Naz, Amaju and Remi on another fast-paced and high tension mission. This time though, they may be way in over their head, egged on only by their love for and desperate determination to save Kemi. Things have changed for the charming foursome, the Merry Men.

Your Excellency

‘Your Excellency’ tells the story of Chief Olalekan Ajadi, a bumbling, billionaire businessman and failed presidential candidate, who is obsessed with Donald Trump. Just when his campaign looks set to be another disaster, Ajadi is anointed by a major party and becomes a credible contender – all through the power of social media.
