Former unified world heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua, suffered a shocking heavyweight defeat when he lost all four of his titles to portly contender Andy Ruiz Jr on June 1, at the Madison Square Garden in New York.
Joshua went into the fight with a 22 straight win record, 21 of which were knockout victories, and all the odds were on the big man to clip the shoddily built Ruiz with a few punches.
The heavyweight world took a beat down each time Joshua was floored by this same Ruiz, who was written off weeks before the encounter.
The bout was surreal as fans witnessed Joshua, who was supposed to be the superman of the fight, become the underdog, as Ruiz unleashed all he had on the former champ.
Joshua will try to correct this wrong when he faces Ruiz in a rematch later in the year in England.
Linear heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury, believes there is no coming back to the top of the heavyweight world for Joshua, after his shock defeat to the Mexican full-figured warrior.
Fury, who is scheduled to take on Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas on June 15, had some words to say about Joshua’s impending comeback:
“Physically, Joshua could out-train everyone. He would break every heart monitor, has probably worn out every treadmill in the gym, smashes the bag, it’s all very unimportant.
“…People who don’t understand boxing look at a fight man and think he can’t fight. The best feeling I got from it was the two best conditioned fighters in the last 20 years have been [Wladimir] Klitschko and Joshua and they both got done by two fat men.”
