Have you seen the trailer of Chiwetel Ejiofor‘s new movie? The Oscar Awards nominee is releasing his first film as a director, a Netflix Original titled, ‘The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind’.

‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ is an adaptation of a book by William Kamkwamba, who told his own story about saving his family and community during a famine.

The film is set in a rural Malawi in the early 2000s and tells the story of curious 13-year-old William (Maxwell Simba) who, in spite of all the odds, finds an unusual solution to the drought which has put his entire village – a predominantly farming community – at risk of famine, and deprived his father (Chiwetel Ejiofor) of income with which to take care of the family and pay his school fees. William built a wind turbine using tree stems and bicycle parts.

Chewa, a Bantu language, also known as Nyanja, is used predominantly in the film alongside the English language. This, together with the ambiance gives an authentic rural African feel.

The U.K based actor is from Enugu State, and has been in the film industry, for at least twenty-three years, starring in ‘Dirty Pretty Things’, ‘Four Brothers’, ‘Children of Men’, ‘Half Of a Yellow Sun‘ among other award-winning films. However, the film that he is most celebrated for is perhaps the 2013 mega-successful box office favorite, ‘Twelve Years a Slave’, which won more than thirty awards 13 months (from release date in November 2013 throughout 2014).

Only last year, Chiwetel Ejiofor was at the Sundance Film Festival with the film ‘Come Sunday’, a film based on the true life events of Carlton Pearson – an Oklahoma bishop.

‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ is currently showing at the Sundance film festival, Utah, United States, scheduled to end of 3rd February 2019, and will premiere on Netflix on the 1st of March.
