Tomi Owo’s ‘Linger’ is our song of the week. The song is characteristic of  Tomi’s trademark slow tempo, superb lyrics and soft, smooth vocals. She wrote ‘Linger’ for a Samsung Nigeria audiovisual campaign packaged by Afrocentric pop culture entertainment creators, HelaBase. Although the song expresses the deep emotions that go with a love relationship gone sour, and the inability of one party to let go, she said the song is devoid of any personal influences as she merely drew inspiration from the emotion of a painful breakup, rather than an actual experience. According to her:
“I believe that one doesn’t need to go through heartbreak to write about heartbreak.”
Tomi Owo is a fantastic soul singer-songwriter who believes that music is an art, a medium for telling compelling stories, supporting worthwhile ideals and appreciating life’s intricacies that are very often taken for granted. Her love for singing and writing songs led her to make ‘Pieces’ in 2015 with her brother, who was also her producer. ‘Pieces’ was a compilation of songs from her “1-song-a-month” project. In 2017 she released the Nostalgia Sessions, a project in which she made covers for some of the biggest hit songs from way back. Tomi Owo is a delight to listen to any day.
