The 8th edition of the much anticipated Heineken Lagos Fashion Week 2018, kicked off on Thursday 25th of October 2018, at the Eko Atlantic, with various talented designers serenading the crowd with chic pieces worthy of Africa’s grandest runway. Starting from the exhibition tent, the beguiling aesthetics and enchanting collections on display gave guests a taste of what to expect as the four-day event took off. Since its first edition in 2011, the organizers embarked on a journey to create an event that would showcase Africa’s best to the world – presenting indigenous designers with a rare opportunity to push the boundaries of what is conventional, and bring to life designs that will lead the world to Africa. Lagos Fashion Week (LFW) has now successfully accomplished what no other fashion show in Africa could, with an event that radiates cross-cultural meanings, and serves as a standard, and a beacon of hope to growing designers in this part of the world. In the collections seen on the runway on Thursday night, quiet a number of designers had the audience wowed by their assemblage, especially the original harlequin prints, resonating with an African theme. The first designer of the night, The Dew Collection, showcased a glamorous contemporary and original African style mix, to create a beautiful ensemble of gowns befitting for any occasion. And, as is the custom of the show to alternate between cultural and classic lines, the next designer, Russell Solomon, took a retro initiative with his tonic collection of casual garbs. Next on the runway was Cynthia Abila, whose dresses held the gaze of all fashionistas in the hall – stunned at her creative prowess. Lagos Space Programme, Fruche, Nack, Hephzibah, Ladunmi Lambo, Kiki Kamanu, and a few others also had their turns on the big stage. The LFW continue, on Friday, 26th October 2018.
