Song of the Week: “Awa Love” by Mavin Record’s Johnny Drille.

Our song for this week is Awa Love by Johnny Drille. It’s very different from what you most often hear from Nigerian Musicians and artistes. It’s an entirely different sound from what most Nigerian music enthusiasts are used to.

Awa Love

The song is classy in every way from rhythm to lyrics. It describes a situation which most people who have ever been in love might be familiar with, especially if they have ever had a disagreement and the other party asked for “some space”. Johnny Drille’s alternative sound has been inspired by Mumford & Sons, Owl City, Phillip Phillips, Passenger, Jon Bellion, Laura Mvula, Cobhams Asuquo, among other. He was nominated at the Headies Awards 2016 for Best Alternaive Song for ‘Wait For Me’. Johnny officially joined Mavin Records in February 2017.
