I am not a fan of sporting activities but one thing I enjoy watching on the field is the dribbling technique. You just have to learn the basics of both football and basketball dribbling. That is what is also expected of you in life. There are prerequisites you are required to have in life before you can pass the ball to the next stage. Soccer dribbling is a football skill that allows us to manipulate the ball with our feet. In life, we need to be able to manipulate whatever life decides to throw at us by engaging and understanding the object and what is necessary to surmount. While dribbling you must be prepared mentally and physically, as mental alertness would give you a positive, willing and a winning mindset. This, in life, should be the bedrock of our living, as our mental well-being equates to the productive output we generate. Here are lessons we can generate from dribbling and are applicable to our lives.

Toes are not good for dribbling:

Never attempt to use your toes. Many people are focused on the least result without taking considerations of the bigger picture. While using your toes metaphorically can make it easier but it would affect your game in the long run as it can make you weak and not involved in the next game. Imagine being around for a while and you have to be on the bench when you could have been productive because you are spent and worn out. Rather, Use the inside and outside of your right and your left foot.

Be in Control of the Ball:

Touch the ball lightly while keeping it close to your body. When dribbling, try to be in control of the ball, you should not allow the ball to control you. Even on the field, your speed should not outrun the ball. Fundamentally in Life, by being in touch with the ball, you are in control of your situation. Don’t look away from the ball as this can let you lose control. Life itself is the ball, and if your head is out of the game, you are almost assured of losing control of your decisions as most external factors would be very much interested in directing your life plans. While your parents, relatives, friends can advise you, you should take control of your life affairs.

Keep your head so that you can see what’s happening on the field:

It is very easy to be focused on the ball and not raise your head to observe your team’s position. Once you do this, you lose out on all life has to offer. Most people are so focused on pursuing life goals, that they become familiar strangers to their loved ones. Try and balance it out so you can observe what’s happening on the field. Businesses should know what’s going on in their competitors’ world so that they can move ahead and in synchronization with their customers. Imagine concentrating on the ball and the whistle blows off indicating the end of the match.

Have Respect:

The saying “Do what you want others to do unto you” would only work if you follow it. I have observed in street football, that at some point, some players no longer concentrate on dribbling but on revenge. If you respect your fellow players you would have the ripple effect. Many of us should endeavor to improve our team spirit by having respect for those we work with. A little grain of respect does magic and hurts no one.

Don’t Be Distracted:

When engaging an opponent while dribbling, you do not consider the size of your opponent, his years of experience, his financial standing or his dexterity. Usually, you are in tune with the object placed before you. Even the cheers from the crowd do nothing to distract you. While there are many of us not in tune with our life’s goals, distraction is the progression you follow by diverting the attention of an individual or group from a desired area of focus and thereby blocking or diminishing the reception of desired information.  If a player gets disappointed while dribbling he may have lost the precious moment his team needs to score a goal. Distraction can be caused by the non-existence of ability to pay attention; lack of interest in the object of attention. Can you imagine a player on the football field not interested in football? Many times, a lot of us in our chosen careers are distracted because we lack interest in our line of work. Many give the reason for doing what they do not love because it pays the bills. No wonder we have square pegs in round holes. Learn your dribble!
