Preserve Leading Zeros in Excel

When you enter a number that begins with one or more zeros, Excel will typically erase those zeros. To preserve them, you can add a quote in front of the first zero. This will cause the application to keep the leading zero(s). However, the entry will function as text instead of a number.

Insert Today’s Date and Current Time in Excel

If you want to quickly insert today’s date in your Excel sheet, you can press Ctrl +; (semicolon). If you would like to include the current time, press Ctrl + Shift+; (semicolon).

Set up Google Alerts

If you want to track a search term—whether that’s news about your company, job vacancies in your field, or reviews of your product from all over the web –you can set up Google alerts for it. This feature allows you to get updates sent to your Google mail whenever something new about your search term pops up on the internet.

Replicate Laptop Screen on Your TV

To mirror the content of your laptop screen on your TV, you can connect the laptop to the TV with an HDMI cable. Having linked them up with the cable, you should select the correct HDMI input (your TV should display the options). If your laptop doesn’t detect the TV, you can manually switch the display output. Do this by pressing Windows key + P.

Link Your Phone to Windows PC

If your computer runs on Windows, you can actually see your phone’s calls, notifications, apps, photos, and text on it. All you need to do is download the “Microsoft Link to Windows” app on your phone from any major app store, search for “Your Phone” on Windows; and the app will lead you through the configuration process.

Edit Lengthy Text with Google Translate

While Google Translate is designed to translate text, you can also use it to catch errors in your writing. Copy the text you want to review, paste it in the Google Translate text box on the right side of your screen, and click on the audio icon at the bottom. This will cause the application to vocalise the text. It’s easier to catch and fix errors this way because the reader can identify them in problematic pronunciations or speech that makes little sense.

Run Mobile Apps on Your Laptop with an Android Emulator

If you can’t download or use any extra apps on your phone (or don’t want to), you could still utilise them on your laptop with an Android Emulator. This is software that allows you to run Android apps and games on your computer. There are several emulators to choose from, so you aren’t short of options. And they are often free to download.

Use Your Voice in Google Docs

You can dictate an entire document on Google Docs, and the application will transcribe it for you. It works similarly to how you create emails and text messages with speech-to-text functions.  What you need to do is open a new document, enable “Voice Typing” in the tools menu, and begin speaking.

Zoom in and Out on a Web Page

If you’d like to magnify or shrink your view of a web page and its contents (zoom in or zoom out), you can use the “Zoom” feature on your Chrome browser. Click the three vertical dots at the top right corner of the browser display to open the menu. Then go to “Zoom”. You can click the + sign to zoom in, and the – sign to zoom out.

Quickly Find Free Slides Online

You can find free slides on almost any subject online if you tune your search to do so. Here’s how. When looking for this type of material on the web, use the topic you’re investigating as your search term, and add the phrase “filetype:ppt”.  The search results will be slides covering your subject of interest.
